Leonard S. Buchoff, Ph.D.

 

Len is a member of the ISIS Business & Technology Advisory Board with extensive experience in plastics applications in electronics, electronic encapsulation, adhesives, conductive plastics and elastomers, electronic connectors, plastic processing and development, and plastic testing and marketing. Additionally, Len leverages his senior industrial and technological experience in asset auditing, including: evaluation of a client's research projects, manufacturing capabilities, and marketing strengths to provide directional guidance for growth.

Len served as Vice President of Research and Development at Technit until 1977 when he founded and managed Hulltronics, which produced elastomeric connectors, that he developed. In 1995, Len sold that business to Tyco where it continues to operate.

Since 1967, Len has directed courses in electronic encapsulation, adhesives and plastics applications in electronic equipment. These courses are presented internationally by the Center for Professional Advancement, at the University of Wisconsin and other organizations.

Len taught a course in plastics testing at the New Jersey Institute for 13 years and a course in Chemical Engineering Process Control at the University of Pittsburgh. Len participated in 35 think tank sessions at leading product concept development organizations on subjects including plastics marketing, potential applications for newly developed materials and material and process selection to solve industrial problems.

Len has consulted for over 50 companies, mainly in encapsulation, adhesion and plastic testing and has handled 12 expert witnessing assignments on a variety of subjects including patent infringement and industrial accidents. He has written 40 technical articles and 8 chapters in handbooks and encyclopedias. He has delivered 30 talks at national society meetings; holds 7 patents including 2 describing a method for determining dissolved oxygen in water that is an ASTM Referee Method A; and has been active for many years in the ACS, IEEE, Society of Plastics Engineers and IMAPS.

Len holds a B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with a Polymer Option from Stevens Institute of Technology. He is married with 3 grown sons and is a citizen of the United States.
